In the first period Providence had a couple of very good scoring chances. One of them being a lose puck sliding out of a pile of players, came over to Providences' Lane MacDermid who rang one off the goal post with a wide open net. Then the rough stuff started as Sound Tigers Travis Hamonic laid a hit on Antoine Roussel in the corner. Roussel didn't like the hit to much, as they skated up the ice Roussel dropped the gloves with Hamonic. Both goalies continued to play well as the period wore on making some key saves. Then a bad turn over lead to a pass in front to former Sound Tiger Jeremy Reich who buried the puck for a 2-0 Providence lead. After Colliton laid a huge hit on a Providence player, at the same time Haley dropped the gloves for the second time this time against Nathan Mclver.
